OUR YOUNG PEOPLE DESERVE QUALITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS. TODAY, WE’RE FALLING SHORT.

Seattle is a world-class city, and our young people deserve public schools that offer equitable access to opportunities. The bedrock underlying public education is eroding. Preparing students for a rapidly changing world requires modernization of our education system — including its governance. While we as a community consider solutions across the great range of Seattle Public Schools’ challenges, we have an opportunity before us to make progress that strengthens Seattle’s public school governance system.

THE CHALLENGES FACING OUR SCHOOLS ARE NOT INTRACTABLE; THEY MUST BE ADDRESSED TODAY WITH URGENCY.

In addition to high quality instruction, great school districts depend on leadership, effective administration, civic participation, and community trust. In combination with the shared priority for excellent and equitable student outcomes, these are elements we can consider for improvement and evolution in Seattle Public Schools.

WE CAN DO THIS.

We invite engagement with community, education, and policy leaders to share resources and learn more about our building blocks approach. It is part of the larger work to support systemic improvement of our district’s performance and its governance to benefit all of Seattle’s students.
